Edison "Ed" L. Beckett

Edison "Ed" L. Beckett, 82, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018 surrounded by his family at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, OH.  
  
He was born on October 15, 1935 to Charles and Norma (Patterson) Beckett in Raceland, KY.  On August 18, 1956 Ed married Barbara Berthold, who preceded him in death on June 3, 1997.
  
Ed graduated from Ironton High School in 1954, and attended Defiance College on a football scholarship.  He faithfully served his country in the US Army from 1956 - 1958 while being stationed in Germany, and then in the National Guard from 1958 - 1960.  Ed worked at Johns Manville, Defiance, as a Production Scheduler and Foreman for 32 years retiring in 1990.  He enjoyed traveling, golf, motorcycle trips, and family camping trips.  Ed was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church, VFW Post 3360, Defiance Eagles, Defiance Moose, and Fort Defiance Riders Motorcycle Club.  Ed was always staying active and enjoyed his long retirement years.
  
Ed will be sadly missed by his son, Michael Beckett of Defiance, OH, two daughters, Michelle (Schon) Derricotte of Amherst, OH, and Melissa (Ron) Gustwiller of Defiance, OH, grandchildren,  Karley Gustwiller, DJ Gustwiller, Shane Derricotte, Austin Beckett, and Brock Beckett, four Great Grandchildren, two sisters, Sandra and Mabel, and a special friend, Irene Zipfel. 
  
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Beckett, his parents, two brothers, Earl Beckett, and Ted Beckett, and two sisters, Margaret, and Mary.
  
Visitation will be held at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm.
     
Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home, with Rev. David Brobston, officiating.
  
Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by VFW Post 3360.
