David W. Bennett, age 63 of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on October 18, 1955 to the late William and Goldie (Ball) Bennett in Defiance, Ohio. Dave was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, and he enjoyed his involvement as an Elder. He worked for several years at Masterson's Hardware. Dave had a true passion to learn the history of Defiance, and was a beloved local historian. He served as a volunteer researcher for the Andrew L. Tuttle Memorial Museum. He was also a charter member of the Defiance County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society. Dave was an avid reader and historical investigator, spending countless hours at the Defiance Public Library. He will be missed by his family and many good friends.
Dave leaves behind his two nieces, Jennifer (Ben) Bennett-Cunningham of Fort Wayne, IN, and Madison (Justin) Stratton of Defiance, nephew, Gregory (Stacy) Bennett of Grayslake, IL, and his great-nephew, Cashman Bennett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald Bennett, and a brother at birth, Rex Bennett.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
