Benjamin T. "Ben" Herman

Benjamin  Thomas "Ben" Herman, 29, of Napoleon, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at The Toledo Hospital.   
  
He was born on March 19, 1990 to Thomas and Kathleen (Szczepanski) Herman in Defiance, Ohio. Ben was a 2009 graduate of Defiance High School. He enjoyed his involvement with the band and choirs. As a child he loved Little League Baseball , his job as a newspaper boy, and the Boy Scouts.

Ben was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Defiance. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Reserve. On May 21, 2011 he married Kelsey (Zumfelde) Herman, who resides in Napoleon. Ben worked at ConAgra in Archbold, Ohio. He was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Toledo Mudhens, and Michigan State. In his leisure time he enjoyed bowling and playing golf. His priority was spending time with Kelsey and their children. Ben will be sadly missed by his family, and many good friends.

Ben is survived by his loving wife, Kelsey of Napoleon, his three young children, Levi, Lucas and Paige, his parents, Thomas and Kathleen Herman of Defiance, his sister, Alicia Herman of Defiance, mother and father-in-law, Jim and Karen Zumfelde of Napoleon, grandparents, Louis and Reba Herman of Defiance, one niece and one nephew, and several exchange students.
  
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adam and Viola Szczepanski.
  
Friends and family may visit from 2-4 pm, and 6-8 pm on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. Eric Mueller officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery, with military graveside rites accorded by VFW #3360.
