Alfredo R. Menendez, 86, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.
He was born on March 22, 1931 to Camilo Mammarella and Maria Menendez in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On February 27, 1954 he married Sara (Barone) Menendez, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2012.
Alfredo came to America on February 13, 1983. He was very proud to be an American, and never missed a voting day. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and Defiance YMCA. Alfredo owned Westwood Motel for 18 years until he retired and sold the business. Alfredo was very active in family events, and he loved showing his support by attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed designing houses as an architect, drawing, cars, racing, and traveling. He will be sadly missed by his family and by so many that loved him.
Alfredo is survived by his daughter, Adriana (Carlos) Lopez of Defiance, sons, Alfred (Diana) Menendez of Defiance, and Alex (Nikki) Menendez of Defiance, seven grandchildren; Lisa Powell, John Menendez, Sergio (Katie) Lopez, Diego Lopez, Diandra (Jim) McGuire, Lexie Menendez, and Michael Menendez, six great-grandchildren; Pippa, Xavier, and Finley Lopez, Natalie and Bryce Powell, and Jimmy McGuire, and sister, Anna Mammarella of Italy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Menendez.
Visitation will be held from 9-10 am on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St Mary Catholic Church in Defiance. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Randy Giesige officiating.
Schaffer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
