Abel Alvarado, 82, of Cecil, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at St. Rita's Mercy Medical Center in Lima, Ohio.
He was born on August 13, 1935 to Efigenio and Antonia (Rodriguez) Alvarado in Mercedes, Texas. He married the love of his life, Janie (Basquez) Alvarado, who preceded him in death on November 20, 2000.
Abel was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Defiance, Moose #2094, and AMVETS #1991. He worked at Johns Manville for over 32 years, he owned Abeleetos Restaurant from 1994 to 1998, and he owned and operated J&A Taco Wagon. He enjoyed running his food stand, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Abel will be sadly missed by his daughters, Sara (Roger) Henry of Defiance, Janie (Shea Sexton) Alvarado of Defiance, Guadalupe (Jeff) Sommer of TN, Anita Alvarado of TN, and Paula (Haskell) Muncy of Cecil, OH, sons, Thomas (Mary Flores) Alvarado, David (Kim) Alvarado, and Francisco Alvarado, all of Defiance. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, with one on the way, and his canine friend, Jack.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Alvarado, and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held from 2-7 pm on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 10th at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Fr Eric Mueller officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
