Virginia Lee Herr, age 92, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024, at her home in Defiance, OH.
She was born on April 16, 1931, to the late Otheo and Anna (Lehman) English in Defiance, OH. Ginny was a 1949 graduate of Defiance High School. On July 2, 1949, she married Joseph W. Herr, who precedes her in death.
Ginny was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her first priority in anything that she did. Ginny was especially fond of springtime when she could enjoy nature and bird watching. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. Ginny was an avid reader and received regular deliveries from the Defiance Public Library. She enjoyed playing Scrabble/Words with Friends and cards, especially Pinochle. Ginny was a wonderful cook and baker.
Virginia is survived by her children, Joseph A. (Sara) Herr of Ashland, KY, Barbara L. (Ric) Homier, Timothy L (Toni) Herr and Rick D. Herr, all of Defiance, and Rebecca S. (Brian) Herr-Dimmerling of Perrysburg, OH; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren as well as her sisters-in law Dorothy Herr of Defiance and Rose Slocum of Ft. Wayne, IN and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Rolland, Bernard and Carl English; sisters, Margaret Klender and Gloria Weisenburger; and grandsons, Curtis and Wesley Homier.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024, 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.). Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (510 Jackson St.), in Defiance, Ohio, with Fr. Jason D'Souza, officiating. Burial will follow the service at Poplar Ridge Cemetery (Adams Ridge Road) Defiance.
