Thelma Hawkins Obituary

On March 15, 2024 Thelma J. Hawkins, age 102 years, eleven months and nine days, passed away peacefully in her home in Mohave Valley, Arizona. Thelma was surrounded by her family and special friend Susie.

Thelma was born on April 6, 1921 to Lloyd and Bessie Fuller. On July 19, 1947 Thelma married her childhood sweetheart Harold E. Hawkins. They moved from Michigan to Defiance, Ohio where they enjoyed 68 years of marriage.

As a young girl, Thelma worked on her parent's dairy farm. After graduating with honors from Williamston High School, she moved on to Business College. After college Thelma worked in the business office for a company REO. They built trucks for World War II. She left REO to work in the office for Bedix Aviation in Owosso, Michigan, where they made and built planes for World War II. Thelma's next job after marriage to Harold was at General Motors in Defiance doing their payroll. From 1964 to 1988 Harold and Thelma started their own business, B. and H. Trucking, Thelma being secretary and treasurer of the business.

Thelma was a life member of VFW #3360, and a member of Auglaize Golf Club where she volunteered for golf scrambles. She attended St. John's Lutheran church in Defiance. Thelma enjoyed golf, the casinos, and doing crafts.

Thelma is survived by her daughter Mary "Mic" (Danny) Hawkins Bauman of Mohave Valley, Arizona, two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Fuller and Bessie Ferguson Fuller, her husband Harold Hawkins, son Larry Hawkins, brother DeVear "Red" Fuller, and great-granddaughter Mattie Jo Cameron.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the funeral home, with Pastor Kurt Mews officiating. Thelma will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.

A special Thank-You to Comfort Keepers and Canyon Hospice in Mohave, Arizona. The family wishes to convey a special thanks to Susie D'Ambrosia, Debbie Stoepfel and Jim McGuffin.

Thelma had a life well lived, was loved greatly, and will be missed by us all. Rest with the Angels, until we meet again.
