Lela G. (Scott) Runyan

Lela G. Runyan, age 92 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at The Laurels of Defiance.   
  
She was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on August 19, 1931 to the late John and Martha Scott. Lela was a graduate of Defiance High School. On March 20, 1955 she married Audus R. Runyan, who preceded her in death on April 9, 2013. 
  
Lela was a faithful member of First Church of God in Defiance, where she taught Sunday School and was the Children's Choir Director. She enjoyed her time spent as a Den Leader with 4-H. She owned and operated the Homestead Restaurant in Defiance and made the best cinnamon rolls. She also cooked at First Church of God for the school and day care. Lela loved sewing, knitting, and making things for her family. Lela was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and was devoted to her family. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
  
Lela is survived by her children; Rick (Chuck Heckler) Runyan of Rochester, NY, Randy (Barb Niese) Runyan of Defiance, and Renee (Terry Capizzi) Runyan of Rochester, NY, her grandchildren; Noah Gurney, Jacob Runyan, and Ronnie Silver, and several nieces and nephews.  
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Audus Runyan, twin sister Leah, three brothers, and her grandson, William Runyan.
  
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at First Church of God in Defiance, with Rev. Larry Kennedy and Rev. Tim Smith officiating. One hour of visitation will be before the service at the church. Lela will be laid to rest at Sherman Cemetery.
