Justine L. "Teenie" Sprow

Justine L. "Teenie" Sprow, age 90 of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
  
She was born on December 20, 1933 to the late Ernest and Amanda (Farris) Schackow in Paulding County, Ohio. Justine graduated in 1950, the youngest in her class having started school at the age of four. She went to a one room schoolhouse for her first four years of school, then moved to Defiance in 1942. She met the love of her life Jack at the Defiance Halloween parade, while they were both still in school, and were married on February 25, 1951. Jack preceded her in death on April 2, 2009.

Justine was a member of Defiance Christian Church, taught Sunday School, VBS, and helped with many funeral dinners. She enjoyed painting, crafts, cooking, antiquing, playing cards, fishing in Michigan and hunting mushrooms. Most of all she enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. They were her life, and she worried about them all right up to the end. Justine was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Dan (Char) Sprow of Defiance, and Jeff (Anna) Sprow of Stryker, her daughters, Cathy (Lenny) Richard of Lima, and Mary Hutchinson of Defiance, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.  
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Carol Jones, son, Steven (Melinda) Sprow, granddaughter, Kimberly Sprow, great grandson, Zachary Lee Elwood Kohli, sisters, Helen Englemann, Ruth Bowers, Myrtle Ruffer and Virginia Clyburn, and her brothers, Ernest, Mort, Raymond, August and Robert Schackow.
  
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Defiance Christian Church in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Rev. Michael Hasselbring officiating. Justine will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
