Jeffrey B Lasanen

  
Jeffrey B. Lasanen, age 50, of Defiance, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2024.

He was born on February 28, 1973 to Dennis and Janet (Brewer) Lasanen in Saginaw, MI. Jeff was a 1991 graduate of Heritage High School in Saginaw Township, MI. He completed his undergraduate education at Taylor University in 1994. He continued his education at Bowling Green State University where he earned his Master’s degree in 1995. He also earned a Master’s degree from Defiance College.

Jeff worked as a reporter/writer for the Crescent-News, was a replenishment coordinator for Hickory Farms, and a substitute teacher at area schools.  He was the head teacher of the Sunday College and Career class at First Baptist Church. In high school, Jeff was a member of the Youth for Christ High Priority singing group and played tennis. While at Taylor University, he sang in both the Taylor University Chorale and the Salt and Light group and served as a discipleship coordinator at Swallow Robin Hall.  Jeff had a great love for the Lord and was a light to those around him. He was an avid sports fan of the University of Michigan and the Detroit Tigers.

 
Jeff is survived by his father, Dennis Lasanen of Defiance, OH; sisters, Julie (Mark) Schumm of Van Wert, OH, and Debbie (Ryan) Clark of Clyde, OH; aunts, Verna Babula of Sterling Heights, MI and Victoria (Al) Craigie of Indiana, PA; nieces Lauren Schumm and Lindsey Schumm; nephews, Justin Clark, Jacob Schumm, Andrew Clark, and Jayden Clark. 

 
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Lasanen; maternal grandparents Edward and Mildred Brewer; and paternal grandparents Frank and Lillian Lasanen. 

Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, 2024, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Jason Vandemark officiating. Jeff will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
