James “Jim” Frederick Kammeyer, age 81 of Defiance, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 26, 2024
Jim was born on January 11, 1943, to Fred and Ameilia (Huner) Kammeyer in a log cabin on the family farm north of Defiance. He graduated from Defiance Highschool in 1961 and then attended meat cutting school in Toledo. He began his employment with Chief supermarkets as a bag boy and then transitioned to meat cutter and eventually became the meat manager of the northside Chief. He was employed with Chief for 48 years before retiring. On October 7th, 1972, he married the love of his life Judy (Feeney) Kammeyer, who survives.
He was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church Defiance and a golden eagle member of Defiance Eagles #372. Jim enjoyed mowing his yard and working around the farm. He was also a lifelong fan of Nascar. In his retirement years, Jim enjoyed going to garage sales and camping at Harrison Lake with Judy. He most loved spending time with his family and grandkids and enjoyed attending their sporting events.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 51 years - Judy Kammeyer, his daughter Jaliene (Corey) Maassel of Defiance, two grandchildren Lane Maassel and Mackenzie Maassel both of Defiance, a step granddaughter Abbi (Jake) Stanford, seven step-great-grandchildren, and his sister, Donna Fickel.
He was preceding in death by his parents: Fred and Amelia Kammeyer, two sisters Betty Stykemain and Mary Ann (Charles) Lehman, and his son, Jarod Kammeyer.
Visitation will be held from 3pm to 8pm on Wednesday January 31, 2024, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday February 1, 2024, at Schaffer Funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Gary Benson will be officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
