Grant Muncy Obituary

Grant Richard Muncy, age 73, was born in Holden, West Virginia, and passed away in Defiance, Ohio on January 22nd, 2024, with his loving wife, Kay, by his side. 

Grant was born on November 2nd, 1950, to the late Quincy and Emogene Muncy in Holden, West Virginia. After graduating from Lenore High, He left his hometown in West Virginia, and moved to Defiance, Ohio and found work at General Motors. Shortly after this Grant was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War, something he was extremely proud of.

Following his time in the service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Helen Kay Basiden, in 1972. The two had 51 years of marriage full of love. Kay and Grant traveled around the world visiting all 50 states and more.

After marrying, the couple made a home together in Defiance, Ohio. Grant continued to work at General Motors for 39 years, during this time he became the union chairman, and he retired in 2008. He was a well respected and loved man by everyone who worked with him and continued to be involved with General Motors throughout his life.

He was a very social person and was a part of many different communities and clubs. During his life he was a proud member of the Amvets and the VFW, he also was a long time member of the Masonic lodge in Continental. Along with his clubs/communities he also frequented different car shows as he was also a car collector and had great pride in his garage and cars. Due to his and his wife’s love for traveling they took many cruises and road trips with friends and family. 

Grant was a wonderful husband, brother, and uncle who was friends with every person he met, no one was a stranger for long. He will be missed by many and remembered as the loving, bubbly person he was during his life. He was Uncle Dickie to his nieces and nephews and many more.

Grant was predeceased by his mother and father, Quincy and Emogene Muncy, and his oldest brother, Roger Muncy. He is survived by his wife Helen “Kay” Muncy, and his five brothers, Quincy Lee Muncy, Terry (Sharon) Muncy, Kenneth Muncy (Josie), Jeffrey (Sue) Muncy, and Haskell (Paula) Muncy.  

Those who knew Grant knew how much he loved celebrations and people, so in lieu of funeral services the family will be holding a celebration of life, date to be determined.
