Edith Elizabeth Phillips Hoover Lantz of Defiance, passed away to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance.
She was born on May 24, 1927 to Marvin "Len" and Hattie (Spencer) Reynolds in rural Continental, Ohio. She graduated from Continental High School in 1945 and attended Tiffin Business School. Edith worked at the Hoover Company in Toledo and the Law Offices of Weaner, Hutchison, Zimmerman and Bacon in Defiance as a legal secretary for Attorney John Zimmerman for 33 years before retiring in 1989.
She loved spending her winters in Florida and her summers at the lake and traveling throughout the western states. She enjoyed gardening, flower gardens, hunting mushrooms, crocheting and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Defiance, and was active in their food pantry. She was also active in the Defiance County Senior Center Auxiliary and AARP.
Edith is survived by her sons, David (Tami) Phillips of Defiance and Stephen (Ronda) Phillips of Camden, North Carolina, her daughter Susan Amore of Defiance, grandchildren; Jason (Katrina) Phillips of Defiance, Heather (Doug) Stiriz of Wauseon, Elessa (Brent) Arnett, Erin Phillips, and Elizabeth Phillips, all of Defiance, as well as 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mildred Ransom, brother Arthur Theodore Reynolds,her husbands; Coolidge Phillips, Herbert Hoover and Alvin Lantz, and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2:00 - 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 11, 2024 at the funeral home, with Pastor John Schlicher officiating. Edith will be laid to rest at Monroe Cemetery, Continental.
The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff and care team at Brookview Healthcare Facility Memory Care Unit and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care of our mother during her stay.
