Douglas "Doug" R. Layne

Douglas "Doug" Robert Layne, age 67 of Defiance, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.  
  
He was born on October 17, 1956 to Robert and Rita (Crumrine) Layne in Defiance, Ohio. Doug was a 1975 graduate of Defiance High School. On June 3, 1978 he married Nancy Pratt, who survives. 
  
Doug was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, VFW #3360, and Eagles #372. He worked at General Motors in Defiance for 44 years until his retirement in 2018. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golfing, and boating. Doug loved spending time with his family and friends, and was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. His most cherished memories were with his grandchildren, who he loved and adored. Making time for drop-ins at friends' houses before coming home to Nancy's cooking was a daily trend. Doug will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.  
  
Doug is survived by his loving wife Nancy of Defiance, his mother Rita Layne of Defiance, his children, Brad (Emily) Layne of Marysville, OH, Sara (Nick) Seuberling of Perrysburg, OH, and Kyle (Nicole) Layne of Huntington, IN, and ten grandchildren; Jacob Layne, Alyson Seuberling, Benjamin Seuberling, Morgan Layne, Connor Layne, Owen Layne, Zachary Layne, Christian Layne, Alexander Layne and Stella Layne. He also leaves behind his brothers, Tom (Linda) Layne of Defiance, Roger (Dawn) Layne of Oklahoma, Dave Layne and Steve (Erin) Layne, all of Defiance, and his sister, Sandy (Ken) McGill of Westerville, OH. 
  
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Layne, and his niece, Alicia Layne.
  
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
