Barbarann Girlie, age 86 of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at St. Clare Commons in Perrysburg, Ohio.
She was born on February 7, 1938 to the late Rudolph and Winifred (Murphy) Clevenger in Defiance, Ohio. She was a 1956 graduate of Jewell High School and was active in dance, baton, softball, and basketball. She earned her Bookkeeping Certificate from Defiance College. On May 6, 1961 she married Melvin P. Girlie, who preceded her in death on June 4, 1977.
Barbarann was a faithful member of Defiance Christian Church (formerly First Church of Christ) where she was a Teacher, Librarian, and Vacation Bible School Superintendent. She worked as a bookkeeper at Defiance Milk Products for five years. Barbarann enjoyed her involvement with the Rainbow Girls Club with the Masonic Lodge. She loved her family above all else and enjoyed reading and taking care of her grandchildren.
Barbarann is survived by her daughter Lisa (Gale Jordan) Girlie of Defiance and grandchildren: Paul (Annette) Rosebrock, Misty (Serafin Gonzalez) Rosebrock, Michael Girlie, Steven Girlie and Mark Jordan; son Mark Girlie of Dupont, OH; daughter Lori Girlie of Haskins, OH and grandchildren: Gabrielle, Devin and Ashton Coon; daughter Jennifer (Brian) Stark of Defiance and grandchildren: Samantha (Kody) Kohler, Sophia and Grady Stark; daughter Rachel Stevens of Clarksville, TN and grandchildren: James, Melanie, Braiden and Reagan Stevens. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren; Skye Rosebrock, Brody and Ella Gonzalez, Willow Elliott, Braxton Stevens and Griffin Kohler.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Clevenger, and her brother James Clevenger.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Hal DeTray officiating. Barbarann will be laid to rest at Taylor Cemetery in Defiance, next to her husband and parents.
