William A. "Bill" Franzdorf, 78, of Defiance, suddenly passed away on  July 10, 2017. 
  
He was born on August 12, 1938 to Alfred and Ida (Floehr) Franzdorf in Highland Township in Defiance County. On June 30, 1962  he married Carolyn (Homier) Franzdorf, who resides in Defiance. Bill served our country in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1961 to 1967. He was a 1956 graduate of Ayersville High School, and was an Honor Graduate with an Associates Degree in Business Administration from International Business College in Fort Wayne.
  
Bill was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Defiance. He worked for Aro Corporation in Bryan from 1959-1961, Defiance Grocery Company in Defiance from 1961-1973, Mel Lanzer Company in Napoleon from 1974-1976, Browns Bakery in Defiance from 1976-2000, and Homier Monumental in Defiance from 2000 until present. Bill loved woodworking, the many bus trips with "the travel bunch" from Fort Wayne, Indiana, playing cards, and a special family pet, Snickers the cat. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing his own tomatoes, onions, and lettuce, "until the deer found his garden."   
  
William will be sadly missed by his loving spouse of 55 years, Carolyn Franzdorf of Defiance, son, Doug Franzdorf of Defiance, son-in-law, Kevin Browns of Defiance, sisters, Marie (Jack) Clark, and  Pauline (Jack) Meyer, many nieces and nephews, and a special Godchild, Adam Homier. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathryn Browns, brothers, Kenneth Franzdorf and Paul Franzdorf.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at St. John Catholic Church in Defiance, with Fr. Eric Mueller officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
