Walter Denver Gingerich, 83, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017, at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance OH.

He was born on December 11, 1933 to Dan and Fannie (Mast) Gingerich in Hicksville, OH.  On May 8, 1971, he married Florence Furney, who passed away on November 23, 2013.

Walter was a member of First Church of God in Defiance, and was a truck driver all of his life retiring from Churchill of Detroit.  He loved to work in his yard, and go camping.

Walter is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Omer) Otto of Greentown IN, and Bonnie Gingerich of Kokomo IN, a step daughter, Linda Eickmeier of Malinta OH, a step son, Frederic (Karen) Furney of Napoleon OH, and a brother, Loren (Ruth) Gingerich of Hicksville OH.  Among other survivors include his three grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Crystal (Jeff) Steiner of Bloomington IL, Kimmie (Mathias) Ingle of Greentown IN, and Jared (Ashley) Otto of Converse IN, he also was very proud of his great grandchildren, Lauryn and Allie Steiner, Cooper and Adleigh Otto, and Greyson Denver Ingle.  Walter also had four step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 16, 2017, from 2-8 pm and Tuesday, January 17, 2017, from 9-10 am, at the First Church of God on Carter Rd, Defiance OH.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 10:00 am at First Church of God with Rev Larry Kennedy and Rev Rick Rufenacht officiating.  Burial will take place in Hoy Cemetery, Henry Co. OH.

Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, is in charge of arrangements. 

Memorials may be made to CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
