Vivian Ruth Mitchell, 78, of Defiance, passed away on October 21, 2016 in her residence.
She was born on January 19, 1938 to J. Harvey and Louise (Worch) Gallant in Bluffton , OH. On June 24, 1958 she married Dr. John A. Mitchell, who survives.
She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Vivian was a 1956 Defiance High School graduate and a 1959 graduate of Lima Memorial School of Nursing. She worked at Defiance Hospital, and Methodist Hospital, Louisville KY. Vivian was a Red Cross blood bank volunteer, and especially loved giving the children's tours at Defiance Hospital. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Defiance where she was an ordained elder and a deacon. Vivian also was the owner and manager of Artistic Design Hair Salon in Defiance for 15 years. Among her hobbies she enjoyed tennis, golf, bowling and downhill skiing..
Vivian is survived by her loving husband, Dr. John A. Mitchell of Defiance, OH, a son, John G. (Kimberly) Mitchell of Columbus, OH, two daughters, Deena Lynne (Philip) Karnes of Defiance, OH, and Julianna R. Kunesh of Defiance, OH, 9 Grandchildren, Eric (Kristin) Shannon, Jennifer (J.D.) Davis, Matthew (Rachel) Mitchell, Codi (Joe) Hildebrandt, Jessica (Dustin) Flowers, Phillip (Heather) Mitchell, Janelle (Rick) Duma, Benjamin (Lacey) Mitchell, and Luke Mitchell, 16 Great Grandchildren, a brother,
J. Edward (Marian) Gallant of Seattle, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Raymond Gallant in infancy.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 24, 2016, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, and on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 10:00 am-11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, Defiance OH.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 11:00 am in First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Lynne Bova and Rev. Tom Steensma, officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the CHP Defiance Area Visiting Nurses Home Hospice or First Presbyterian Church.
