Violet I. Vogelsong "G-ma", 85, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance.  
  
She was born on May 15, 1931 to Elzer and Katherine (Shertzen) Avery in Junction, Ohio. On May 5, 1956 she married James R. Vogelsong, Sr., who preceded her in death on January 12, 1993. Violet worked at General Motors in Defiance for over 22 years.
  
Violet will be sadly missed by her family; Children, Alton "Tim" McElwain of Sandusky, Ranae, formerly Jim Jr. (Arnita) Vogelsong of Fostoria, Michael McElwain of Ravenna, Ohio, and  Mickey (Bill) Edwards of Morrilton, Arkansas, 8 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, sisters, Mary Sue (Russel) Seifert of Washington, Utah, and Teresa Avery of Florida, a Godchild, Katelyne Wilson, and special niece and caregiver, Laura (Tony) Buchholz. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James R. Vogelsong, son, Eric McElwain, seven brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens.
