Terry A. Schlachter, 70, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
  
He was born on January 22, 1947 to Cleo and Ellen (Barnett) Schlachter in Defiance. Terry was a 1965 graduate of Defiance High School.  On July 29, 1967 he married Wanda (Thomas) Schlachter, who resides in Defiance. He worked at Metal Management (formerly Isaac Corp.) as a crane operator from 1966 to 2010.  Terry was a member and Trustee of Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church. He was known for his good sense of humor. He loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter.
  
Terry is survived by his loving spouse of  49 years, Wanda Schlachter of Defiance, daughter, Jill (Jack) Kronk of West Jefferson, granddaughter, Alexis C. Kronk, brothers, Thomas (Gerry) Schlachter, and Michael (Evelyn) Schlachter, all of Defiance, aunt, Frances Schlachter of Bryan, mother-in-law, Rosemary Thomas of Oakwood, brother-in-law, Warren (Sue) Thomas of Oakwood, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Jack R. Kronk, Jr., grandparents, Floyd and Nellie Barnett, Jack Lang, and Albert and Annabelle Schlachter.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home,  with Rev. Irvin Leidy officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
