Nellie C. Adkins, 97, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at The Laurels of Defiance.  
  
She was born on May 5, 1919 to Samuel and Rosa (Culp) Pollock in Jackson, Ohio. In 1940 she married Madison Adkins, who preceded her in death in July, 2005.
  
Nellie was a member of Community of Christ Church in Lima, Ohio. She worked as a manager for Montgomery Ward in Portsmouth, Ohio for 16 years, and she worked at Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon for 7 years. Nellie loved quilting, babysitting, and reading.
  
Nellie is survived by her daughters Linda Meyers of Defiance, Ramona (Daniel) Greco of West Lake, Ohio, and son, Michael Adkins of Defiance, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and friend of 66 years, Madison Adkins, son, James Adkins, daughter, Joyce Ann Cannaday, grandson, Richard DeMonte, and brothers and sisters.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am  on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral  Home, with Bill Dailey and Susi Deitch officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
