Neal J. Funk, 95, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Mercy Hospital of Defiance.
He was born on January 15, 1923 to William and Norma (Parker) Funk in Grover Hill, Ohio. On April 8, 1944 he married Geraldine (Gearhart) Funk, who resides in Defiance. Neal proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy Reserve, and the U.S. Army during WWII.
Neal was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Defiance. He worked for Dinner Bell Foods as a truck driver for over 26 years until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement, he also enjoyed working for Maag's Cafe, and at the former Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath- Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home. Neal was a member of the Masonic Lodge Tuendawie #195 in Defiance, and The Scottish Rite and Zendbia Temple in Toledo.
Neal will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 73 years, Geraldine Funk of Defiance, son, Larry (Linda) Funk of Wauseon, daughter, Ricki (Douglas) Mayes of Lakewood, CO, four granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and sister, Barbara Ann (C.W.) Miller of Van Wert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gail Funk and Carl Funk.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 10-11 am at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Pastor Lee Genter officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens, with graveside military rites accorded by VFW #3360. Schaffer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
