N. Ruth Bauer, 93, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at  Mercy Hospital of Defiance.  
  
She was born on July 8, 1923 to Jay and Nellie (Shock) Hornish in Defiance County. In 1946 she married Robert E. Bauer, who preceded her in death in 1993. 
  
Ruth was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Defiance, a member of the Altar Rosary Society, and she enjoyed volunteering in the Food Pantry, and  as a receptionist in the church office. She worked at Defiance Machine Works, Lectrolite, Manufacturers Supply Co., and she retired from KMH Supply Company in 2002. Ruth was a devoted Christian, always willing to help others without recognition or praise. Ruth loved her family dearly, and the dinners, parties, and laughter meant the world to her. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren-they will cherish their memories with Grandma Ruth forever.
  
Ruth will be sadly missed by her family; daughter, Nancy (Gene) Homan of Defiance, sons, Terry (Linda) Bauer of Sidney,Ohio, David (Kyle) Bauer of Defiance,  Mark Bauer of  Huron, Ohio, and  Gregg (Lisa) Bauer of Angola, Indiana, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and brother, Charles Hornish of Defiance. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert E. Bauer, sister, Dorothy Chase, brother, Donn Hornish, and grandson, Alexx Bauer. 
  
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on  Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at  11:00 am on Friday, February 3, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
