Mary G. Batt, 97, of Defiance, went to be with her Lord on  May 21, 2016 at the Kingsbury Place in Defiance.  
  
She was born on April 4, 1919 to Joseph and Rose (Schindler) Desch in Defiance. Mary graduated from Defiance High School. On October 11, 1941she married Arthur Batt and he passed away on February 3, 1961.  
  
Mary  is survived by her sons, Dennis (Diane) Batt of Defiance, Thomas (Dixie) Batt of Winchester, IN, Gregory (Karen) Batt of Indianapolis, IN, and daughter, Ellen (David) Haid of Dublin, OH, 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and sister, Betty Layman of Toledo, OH. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur Batt, daughter, Carol Schaub, and brother, William Desch.

Mary loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren;  They always made her smile.  She was a devoted mother that lived her life serving God and caring for her family.  Mary served as both mother and father raising her five children. She worked as a Secretary for Attorney Erv Clemens and later worked as the Parish Secretary at St. Mary's Catholic Church for 25 years retiring in 1989.  Mary was the first Parish Secretary hired by Fr. Flynn at St. Mary's in 1964 and the first St. Mary's School Board Secretary for 8 years.  Mary's memberships included St. Mary's Catholic Church Altar Rosary Society, Propagation of Faith, Liturgy Committee 10 yrs., Pastoral Committee 1995-1997, Greeters Ministry 9 yrs., Volunteer Office Receptionist 1990-2002, Bible Study Group 18 yrs., 55+ Club, Parish Retreat in1995, 125 Anniversary Committee 1997-1998, Mailed cards to parish ill, shut-ins, families of deceased and new Baptisms 1995-2002.
  
Visitation will be held Monday, May 23, 2016, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with a vigil service held at 2 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 10:00 am at the St Mary Catholic Church,with Father Randy Giesige officiating.
  
Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.
