Mabel Irene Hardy, 101,  passed away peacefully at the Laurels of Defiance on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. She was born March 28, 1914 in Defiance, the daughter of Frank B. and Frieda A. (Pracht) Guilliam. She married Walter J. Hardy on September 16, 1939 and he preceded her in death on December 29, 1999. Mabel was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. At 100 years old, she continued to make cookies and noodles, which she considered her therapy.

Surviving are a son, Larry (Martha) Hardy of Adrian, Michigan, and a sister, Joyce Stork of Defiance; four grandchildren: Renee Tressler of Livingston, Texas, Jennifer (Duane) Doyle of Adrian, MI, Brian (Heather) Hardy of Lake City, Pennsylvania, Heidi (Ted) Bender of Adrian, MI, nine great-grandchildren; Christopher Tressler, Rebecca Tressler, Daniel (Tara) Baker, Alicia (Sean) Hosler, Katlin Doyle, Gavin Doyle, Taylor Hardy, Leah Hardy, and Isabelle Hardy, four great-great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Caiden and Kendall Baker, and Abigail Tressler, and many nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers: Roger, Eugene, and Robert Guilliam, and five sisters; Edna, Gertrude, and Viola Guilliam, Dorothy Naveaux and Juleah Fuller.

Visitation will be at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016, and on Saturday for one hour prior to services at the church. Services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016.  Rev. Donald L. Luhring will officiate, with burial services to follow at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.
