Laurada Land Bunten passed away peacefully on April 9, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
 
She was born on October 16, 1923 to Matthew and Evelyn Land in Carmi, Illinois. She married Charles Albert Bunten on June 5, 1948.

Laurada graduated from Carmi High School in 1941,  graduated from Miami University in 1944, and received her Master's Degree in Music from Southern Illinois University in 1963.  She began her teaching career as a music teacher in Hindsboro, Illinois in 1944, and retired from teaching at Talawanda Schools in 1983. Laurada was a long time member of Oxford United Methodist Church, sang in the church choir, volunteered at the Oxford Senior Center, and delivered meals for Home Delivered Meals. Music was her passion, and traveling was her hobby.

Surviving is her daughter, Barbara Welty of Defiance, sons James Bunten and Sharon Umbaugh of Keaau, Hawaii, Dale Bunten and Joyce Quayle of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, and her grandchildren, Samantha Bunten of Brooklyn, NY, Tara (Kyle) Slagley of Shanghai, China, Erin Herbert of Reese, MI, and Jill Welty of Tiffin, OH, and three great-grandsons.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bunten, and son-in-law, David Welty.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm at Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford, Ohio on Thursday, April 13, 2017, with visitation one hour prior to the service, with Pastor Fred Shaw officiating. Burial will be at Big Prairie Cemetery in Carmi, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, or Oxford United Methodist Church.
