Jeananne G. Steingass was born the 20th of May 1926 in Defiance Ohio, the daughter of Eugene E. and Alberta (Kummerant) Smith. She entered into eternal life on January 6th 2017 surrounded by family and loving spouse Lloyd.  She was a lifetime resident of Defiance.  She graduated in 1944 from Defiance High School.  She enrolled in some courses at Northwest Tech. 

In 1989 she married Lloyd F. Steingass who survives her; In 1948 she married Kenneth Seiple who passed away in 1979, in 1981 she married Donald Morris who passed away in 1981.  

She was a lifetime member of St. John’s Catholic Church, attending the parish school and one year of commercial class.  She was also a member of the Defiance County Genealogical Society, Friends of Defiance Library, YMCA, local UAW Retirees (surviving spouse), Christian Mothers Society and Defiance Senior Center.  Jeananne continued to meet with 12 of her special grade school friends until just recently for a monthly gathering.  Jeananne maintained a pen pal for over 60 years who she was introduced to during an eighth grade project at St. John’s. Jeananne searched her roots and was able to apply and be accepted as a First Family of Defiance County.

Jeananne enjoyed many hobbies, including but not limited to traveling, sewing, needlepoint, reading, genealogy, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. She was the luckiest card player in the world. She enjoyed spending time at Marble Lake.

She worked for the War Price and Rationing Board for two years and then was employed by Diehl Incorporated for approximately 30 odd years, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include husband, Lloyd, son Kenneth (Hedy) Seiple, Defiance; daughters  Patricia (Robert) Gatliff,  and Lorrie Seiple, Findlay, Marianne (Dan) Bohn  and  Lynn (Gilbert) Gonzalez , Defiance;  one stepson David (Mary) Steingass, Napoleon; stepdaughters Carol (Art) Sauber, Defiance,  Bev (Tom) Hancock, Evansport, Yvonne (Luke) Wilcox of Defiance;  two brothers Greg (Sharon) Smith, Golden, Colorado, Eugene James (Janice) Smith, Defiance;  sisters Berta Bott , Defiance and Maribeth (John) Peoples, Defiance;  11 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 15 step great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were husbands, Kenneth Seiple and Donald Morris; parents Eugene and Alberta Smith; sister Patricia Shawley; daughter Regina Rose in infancy, and grandchild Nicholas, and 2 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 11:30 am at St. John’s Catholic Church, Defiance with Fr. Eric Mueller officiating.  Burial Will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.  Friends may call at the Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 2-8 pm with a Vigil Service recited at 4:00 pm and calling on Wednesday one hour prior to the services.

Preferred memorial can be made be to Defiance Library Ohioanna (genealogy) Room, St. Johns Catholic Church, Mother Teresa Right to Life, and CHP Home Care and Hospice.
