Jean Arlene Rieke, 84, of Sherwood, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Sedyebrooke-Bradford-Green Nursing Home in Lincolnshire, Illinois.  
  
She was born on October 13, 1932 to Harry and Eunice (Sonningsen) Johnson in Paulding, Ohio. On June 6, 1952 she married Kenneth Ray Rieke, who preceded her in death on June 18, 2008.
  
Jean was a member of Sherwood Methodist Church, and the Eastern Stars. She was an avid reader, and always had a book in her hands. 
  
Jean will be sadly missed by her daughters, Virginia (Phil) Combs of Bluffton, SC, Donna (Mark) Zaharski of Chicago, IL, Janet (Don) Stoll of Mundelein, IL, and  Susan (Jeff) Rimland of Bridge Hampton, NY, son, David (Peg) Rieke of Defiance, 10 grandchildren; Kelly (Michael) Sapp, Kristen (Rich) Churak, Chad (Holly) Combs, Sean Combs, Shelby (Brian) Bratt, Brett Rieke, Shane Rieke, Travis Stoll, Andrea Stoll, and Haleigh Rimland, 5 great-grandchildren; Zachary and Emily Sapp, Samantha Churak, Gracie and Graceson Combs, sisters, Betty (Ivan) Layman, Carol (Ed) Straley, Judy (Jim) Etzler, and brother, Doyle (Louise) Johnson, all of Paulding. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth R. Rieke, and brother, Dick Johnson.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor Jimmy Fry officiating. Burial will follow at Sherman Cemetery.
