James “call me Jack” Jackson Duley of Defiance.
His wings were ready on March 23, 2016, but our hearts were not. Jack had fully lived each of his 74 years and he lived them his way. He started his life in Morgantown, WV, resided many years there and finished his journey in his chosen home of Defiance, OH.
His story began in January of 1942 when Lena Ellen Uphold Duley and Woodrow Wilson Duley added another son to their family. Brothers: Wilford “Willie” Duley (Donna) of Independence, WV, Donald “Donnie” Duley (Linda) of Kingwood, WV and the late Woodrow Duley, Jr. Sisters: Robin “Sarah” Rodaheaver and Michelle Potts.
He was truly a JACK of all trades. He worked in a gas station, many years in the cable television industry, as a caretaker at his church and finally, as a maintenance worker at Thompson Steel. There was neither a project that he would not attempt nor a problem that he would not tackle. It is our belief that the world will have to fix itself now that Jack is not here to repair everything that is broken.
Jack married his best friend, “deal-finding-buddy” and life partner in 1983. Rosemary and Jack loved riding his motorcycle along the open road, working in their garden and hitting it big at the casinos. It was Jacks belief that he hit the jackpot when he found Rosemary.
Jack used to (erroneously) believe he wanted a son, but life gave him four spirited daughters instead.  Jacki Morgan (Larry) of Westover, WV, Judi Duley, Amy Jo Gaskill and Angela Jacobs of Defiance, OH. Each one of his daughters are daddy’s little girl and secretly believes that he loves her best!
He had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Each was a source of joy and immense pride to him.  Grandchildren: Amanda Sell, Larry Paul Morgan III, Brandon Poturica, Shawna Poturica, Mercedez Pinski, Chaz Pinski, Zackary Jacobs, Nevaeh Miller , Adrian Jacobs.  Great grandchildren: Toby Sell, Noah Sell, Levi Sell. Due in April: Kenleigh Sell
Jack was previously married to Jeannie Duley in Morgantown, WV and Debbie Golden in Bowling Green, OH.
Jacks absence will be forever felt by many. He shared his passion of fishing, hunting, golfing, stock car racing, motorcycles and music with those closest to him. His legacy will live on in each of these loved ones and every life he touched. His memory will linger on through each line of an old country song, every rev of engine and the smell of breakfast gravy simmering.  However, our assumption is that it is his jokes and laughter that may be missed the most.
The family would like to respectfully thank CHP Defiance Area Hospice and Trinity United Methodist Church of which Jack and Rosemary are members. In accordance to Jacks final wishes, his final presentation will be in blue jeans and a Harley Davidson shirt. We offer each of you the same opportunity.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the funeral home, with Pastor Judy Williams officiating.
