Geraldine L. Culbertson 82, died on Thursday, October 27, 2016 surrounded by family at the Fulton Manor Nursing Home in Wauseon, Ohio.  She was the former pastor’s wife at Defiance Assembly of God. Geraldine Culbertson was born on January 17, 1934 to James and Velma Van Vorce of Toledo, Ohio.  Pursing a ministry calling, she graduated from North Central Bible College where she met her loving husband of 57 years.  Roger and Geraldine were married on September 17, 1955 at Toledo First Assembly of God.

The Culbertson’s began their ministry at Napoleon, Ohio in 1955 where they served for over 7 years.  Then, they accepted the pastoral ministry at Defiance where they continued to minister for the next 38 years.  Geraldine was very active in ministry through the local church and the Ohio Assembly of God Ministry Network.  She served as a state director for the girls’ ministry program known as Girls’ MPact formerly known as Missionettes.  

She is survived by her three daughters, Marjorie (Garry) Teigland of Georgetown, Indiana; Kathleen (Randy) Trowbridge of Delta, Ohio; and Sharon (Paul) Ellis of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.  She also leaves behind eight grandchildren Roger (Tammy) Trowbridge, Benjamin (Abby) Teigland, Sharon (Nate) Grenier, Rebekah (Peter) Riefstahl, Brita (Bronson) Mulligan, Joshua Ellis, Jerilyn Ellis, Jenette Ellis, nine great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Paul Scrabeck of Alden, Minnesota, sister-in-law, Lorna (Don) Wermedal of Wells, Minnesota and many other family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her father, James Van Vorce; mother, Velma (Powers) Van Vorce;  her sister, Dorothy (Andy) Csomos; and brother, Charles (Betty) Van Vorce all from Toledo, Ohio.  

Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Schaffer Funeral Home, 529 Jefferson Street, Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church.  A “Going Home” celebration service remembering Geraldine’s life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Delta Assembly of God, 405 West Main Street, Delta. Burial will take place at Lyons Cemetery.
