George M. Murphy II, 63 , of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Kindred Hospital, Lima, OH.  
 
He was born on July 15, 1954 to George and Patricia (Nolan) Murphy in Detroit, MI. On April 19, 1974 he married Susan Greb, whom survives.
 
George was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.  He was a supervisor for GM Powertrain where he had 31 years of service and retired in 2009.  George enjoyed doing carpentry, and especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He was a man who never met a stranger he wouldn't help if needed.
 
George is survived by his loving wife, Susan of Defiance, OH, 2 sons, George M. (Marisa) Murphy III of Northwood, OH, and Justin (Becky) Murphy of Bryan, OH, daughter, Erin (Joe) Gomez of Lima, OH, 7 Grandchildren; Taylor Shirk, whom George and Sue helped raise after the death of her mother and was a big part of George's life, other grandchildren include Ellyn, Justin II, George IV "Will", and Kane Murphy, Emily and Noah Gomez, 4 brothers, Kevin (Lori) Murphy of Metamora, MI, Brian (Mary) Murphy of Huron, OH, Harry  Murphy of Sterling Heights, MI, and Sean (Sharri) Murphy of Sterling Heights, MI, 3 sisters, Patricia McEveney of East Pointe, MI, Barbara (Joseph) Newton of Nashville, IN, and Kathleen "Tina" (Gary) Marchetti of Lenox Twp, MI.
 
He was preceded in death by parents, and a daughter, Ellyn Murphy-Shirk.
 
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 26, 2017, from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, with a Vigil Service beginning at 2:00 pm.
     
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 11:00 am in St John's Catholic Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Fr Eric Mueller, officiating.
 
Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery.
