Gary A. Armstrong, 76, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.  
  
He was born on November 6, 1940 to Charles and Geneva (Humes) Armstrong in Shelton, Nebraska. He was a 1958 graduate of Defiance High School. On  April 18, 1959 he married Carol (Smitley) Armstrong, who resides in Defiance. 
  
Gary worked as a Millwright at General Motors in Defiance for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of  UAW Local 211. He enjoyed being outdoors, working on cars and electronics. Gary loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and did the best magic tricks for them.  He will be greatly missed by his friends and family, and especially his K-9 companion, Ehle.
  
Gary is survived by his loving spouse of  57 years, Carol Armstrong of Defiance, son, Jeff (Amy) Armstrong of Paulding, daughters, Lora Armstrong, Deb Schappert, and Julie Armstrong, all of Defiance, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters, Madonna Conley, and Patsy McDowell, both of Defiance, and brother, Kenny (Ruth) Armstrong of Defiance. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Ryan Armstrong, brothers, Rex Armstrong, Rev. Raymond Armstrong, and Rev. Mack Armstrong, and sister, Ruby Keller.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
