Gale Leroy King passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance. He was surrounded by his loving family and the Rev. John Hess, who performed his marriage to Susan (Perry) 25 years ago.
Gale was born January 10, 1932 in Marion, Indiana and was the only son of Roy and Wilma (Rissler) King. He was a graduate of Defiance High School. After graduation he served four years in the United States Air Force attaining the rank of staff sergeant. During the Korean War he served in Japan.
In 1992 he retired with 40 years of credit from General Motors, where he was the Supervisor of Purchasing. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and Trustee, and the Great Banquet Reunion Group. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #147.
Traveling, reading, boating on Crooked Lake, Indiana, and spending time with family were his favorite activities. Gale will be remembered for his love of children and animals, fairness in business, and as a true gentleman.
Gale is survived by his wife Susan, daughters Deborah (James) Harmon of Westfield, Indiana, and Janet (William) Gregory of Toledo, sisters Lavonna (Carl) Kruse and Phyllis (Leslie) Sanders, sister-in-law Elizabeth Sigg, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Diane and Mike Winners, all of Defiance. He is also survived by grandchildren Stacy, Lindsay, Mackenzie and Jordan Gregory of Toledo, Lissa (Jason) Starner of Noblesville, Indiana, and Nathan Harmon of Westfield, Indiana. There is one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife Mary, and sister and brother-in-law Wanda and Don Wichmann.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Services will be Monday, March 7, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Lynette Bova, Interim Pastor of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Defiance, CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, or Friends of Felines Rescue Center.
