Frederick George Butler, 85, of Defiance, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at The Laurels of Defiance. 
  
He was born on January 19, 1932 to Ira and Mable (Slough) Butler in Defiance.  Fred was a 1950 graduate of Defiance High School.  He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of Defiance American Legion Post #117.  On June 10, 1956 Fred married Arlene Beindorf.  Fred worked 46 years in various positions at GM Central Foundry retiring in 1993. He was member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood where he served as an Elder and was active in the men's club.  Fred was a member of the Silver King Tractor Club, the International Harvester Collectors Club, and the Veteran Motor Car Club of America.  He was also active as a Defiance County 4-H Advisor and Fairview Athletic Booster.  Fred enjoyed restoring antique tractors and trucks.   

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Arlene Butler of Defiance, daughter, Diane (Todd) Radke of Columbia City, IN, son, Gary (Rhonda) Butler of Defiance, daughter, Amy (Jim) Miglin of Columbia City, IN, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren,  and sister, Arlene (Herb) Short of Topeka IN. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Neil, and brothers Ralph and Clayton Butler.
  
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood where funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm with Pastor Eric Moquin officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance with military graveside rites by the Defiance VFW Post #3360.
  
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood or a charity of the donor's choice.
