Frank  Hurtt, 77, of Defiance, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, from a two-year battle with prostate cancer.
 
He was born on November 11, 1939 to Albert and Dorothy (Hemenway) Hurtt in Defiance. Frank was a 1957 graduate of Defiance High School and a 1967 graduate of Defiance College. On June 4, 1961 he married Susan Hornish, who resides in Defiance.  Frank started working at Campbell Soup Company after high school graduation, continuing to work there for 38 years in various positions, ending with Manager of Payroll.

Frank was a very hard worker and had many interests throughout his life. After retirement, he was often found golfing, bowling, playing cards,watching Sam Hornish Jr. race, traveling with Susan to Florida or other parts of the country, or watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns.

Frank was a member of Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, serving in many positions, most recently usher. For ten years, Frank was a 4-H advisor where his children showed farm-raised sheep, and had many other projects at the Defiance County Fair.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 56 years, Susan Hurtt of Defiance, children Debra Hurtt-Hand, D.D.S. of Columbus, Steve Hurtt (Iván Amy) of Columbus, Lynette Hurtt of Defiance, and Robin Hurtt of El Segundo, CA; Grandchildren; Marina Knape, Caitlin and John Hand, and Jacob Hurtt; brothers Jerry (Christine) Hurtt and Tom (Peg) Hurtt, both of Defiance, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren, family, and too many friends to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald (Helen "Honey") Hurtt, and his son-in-law Geoff Hand.
 
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 16 at Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren in Defiance, with Rev. Ben Polzin officiating.
