David  Richard Smith, Sr. 60, of Sherwood, passed away on  Friday May 20, 2016 in his home.  
  
He was born on May 5, 1956 to Raymond and Florence (Gordon) Smith in Defiance.  On  July 23, 1994 he married Jennifer Herd and she survives.  He graduated from Fairview High School in 1976.  Dave worked for Campbell Soup Company in Napoleon for 25 years. 
  
Dave was a member of the Defiance Eagles and the Sherwood VFW.  He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  Dave also enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time and was a hard worker.  
He is survived by his loving spouse of 21 years Jennifer, mother, Florence Gordon of Paulding, children, Christina (Robert) Kolb of Ney, David (Jan) Smith, Jr. of Sherwood, Susan Smith (Dustin Schilt) of Ney, Danielle Nash (Eric Mason) of Paulding, and Zeb Smith of Defiance, 8 grand children Nikki Mullins, Austin  Smith, Deanna Simonis, David Simonis, Jr., Dakota Simonis, Zachary Hull, Savannah Smith, Emanuel Schilt, a great granddaughter Addison Ashbaugh and  4 siblings Steven (Julie) Smith of Sherwood, Robert (Dawn) Smith of Arthur, Patricia (Ray) Noffsinger Hamilton, AL., and Martha (Patrick) Fillman of Sherwood. 
  
He was preceded in death by father, Raymond H. Smith, Jr. and two brothers Timothy Smith and Thomas Smith. 
  
Visitation will be held Monday, May 23, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Paul Myers officiating.
