Daniel D. Degler, 86, of Defiance, was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.  
  
He was born on February 20, 1931 to Willis and Hildegard (Orthwein) Degler in Defiance. He was a 1949 graduate of Ayersville High School. He served our country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. On April 23, 1955 he married  Marilyn ( Hornbeck) Degler at St. John's Lutheran Church, Union Corners in Sandusky, Ohio.  

Daniel was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Defiance. He worked as an electrician at General Motors after 38 years of service.  He was a life member of VFW Post #3360, UAW Local #211, and he sang with the Barber Shop Chorus "Northwestern Aires" and several other barbershop quartets for 61 years. His hobbies included camping, golfing, gardening, and singing. Daniel will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
  
Daniel is survived by his loving spouse of 61 years, Marilyn Degler of Defiance, daughter, Lynne (Dennis) Hall of Marysville, Ohio, son, David (Karen) Degler of Defiance, granddaughter, Hillary (John Bauchmoyer) Hall of Columbus, and sister, Rosemary Redlich of Hawley, Pennsylvania. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hildegard and Willis Degler, and sister, Virginia Kruse.
  
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, with Rev. William Stottlemyer officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Stephen Lutheran Cemetery.
