Charles J. "Charlie" Bartlett, 73, of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on March 19, 1944 to John and Erma (Lantow) Bartlett in Madison, Wisconsin. He was a graduate of Northeastern Local Schools in Jewell. Charlie proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On July 16, 1966 he married Mary (Kane) Bartlett, who preceded him in death on March 2, 1997.
He was a former member of First Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge, DAV, AMVETS #1991 of Defiance, and a life member of VFW #5665 of Sherwood. He was a Charter Member of Noble Township Fire Department. Charlie owned and operated The House of Fix and Repair. He was a repairman, and loved to tinker and work with wood. He was a dreamer, an artist, and a perfectionist.
Charlie will be sadly missed by his mother, Erma DeTray of Defiance, sisters, Bev (Henry) Will of Trevor, WI, Pam (Tim) Rupp of Bryan, and Lori (Don) Riffe of Harts, WV, brother, Hal (Deb) DeTray of Defiance, many nieces and nephews, and his dog, Pablo.
He was preceded in death by his fathers, John Bartlett and Harold DeTray, and wife, Mary Bartlett.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, and for one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 8th at Defiance Christian Church, with Pastor Mike Hasselbring officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery, with military graveside rites accorded by Sherwood VFW #5665.
