Carroll R. Bergman, 79, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 at his residence.  
  
He was born on November 1, 1936 to Alva and Addie (Hasch) Bergman in Defiance, OH.  On February 1, 1953 he married Dolena Ball, who survives.
  
Carroll retired from Sprint Telephone Co. where he was a PBX Installer and repairman.  He also was a Volunteer Fireman with Defiance Fire Dept, a Defiance County Associate Sheriff Deputy, and Carroll was involved with the Boy Scouts of America by being a scout leader at the former Brickell School and scout master for Pack 75 at St John Lutheran.  He was a member of  St. John Lutheran Church, Life member of VFW Post 3360, AMVETS Post 1991, and the American Legion, he also was invoved with the Defiance Amateur Radio Club.  Carroll served his country as a Corporal in the National Guard of the United States during the Korean Conflict Era.  He was the Owner / Operator of Bergman Trailer Sales, Defiance, owned his own engraving business, served as director of the Skylark Youth Center, Defiance, and was also an attendant at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance.  In his free time Carroll loved to travel and held a private pilot license, photography, collecting guns, camping, watching westerns, collecting Bolo Ties - belt buckles- and baseball hats, or just being with his friends at the McDonalds Coffee Club.
  
Carroll is survived by his loving spouse, Dolena Bergman of Defiance, OH, daughters, Carol (Dave) Mangas of Defiance, OH, and Patricia (Wesley) McFarland of Bloomington, IN, sons, Mike (Donna) Bergman of Hope Mills, NC, and Mark (Sondra) Bergman of Defiance, OH, 15 Grandchildren, Andy Mangas and Paige Watson, David Jr (Rebecca) Mangas, Cynthia Mangas, Sarah (Terry) Ricker, Jeff (Lindsay) Mangas, Michael (Michelle) Bergman, Jason (Lori) Bergman, Jeremy (Shawn) Bergman, Joshua (Carmen) Bergman, Donovan Bergman, Kristen McFarland, Kelsey McFarland, Matthew McFarland, Stephany (Kyle) Blackston, and Christopher Bergman, 17 Great Grandchildren, Luke, Autumn, Emanuel, Blake, Addison, Alivia, Nathanael, Michael III, Athena, Annmarie, Jason Jr., Ryanne, Gabriel, Ailani, Joshua Jr., Evan and Vanessa, sister, Roberta (Jim) Slight of Hicksville, OH, brothers, Gary (Mary) Bergman of New Bavaria, OH, Larry (Diann) Bergman of Sherwood, OH, and Fred (Rita) Bergman of Defiance, OH, Sisters-in-law, Ardis Bergman of Defiance, OH, Diana Bergman of Wabash, IN, Sylvia Young of Defiance, OH, and Elaine Ball of Defiance, OH, and his beloved pet, Miss Kitty.
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Eugene Bergman, and Paul Michael Bergman, In-laws, Roy Ball, Lawrence Ball, Torrence Ball, Nelson (Marjorie) Ball, Mary Ball, Junior Ball, Dean  Young, Goldie (William) Bennett, and Martin  Ball.
  
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2016, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
    
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, 11:00 am at St John Lutheran Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Rev. Donald L Luhring, officiating.
  
Burial will take place in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Sherwood OH.
  
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Defiance County Visiting Nurses, or St. John Lutheran Church.
