It is with deep regret I must announce the passing of my brother, Alan Bradley Clingaman, 77, of Defiance, on Sunday, August 7, 2016.
He was born on September 8, 1938 in Wauseon, Ohio to David and Alma (Buntz) Clingaman, and moved to Defiance in 1941. He was a husband, father, musician, modeler, and a stooge follower. He married Marva Lynn (Hewitt) Clingaman on November 26, 1959. They had two children, Kelly Alan (Jennifer) Clingaman of Racine, Wisconsin, and Keri Ellen Steffan of Defiance, 6 grandchildren; Rebecca, Kristina, Michael, Kera, Lyndsay, and Sara, 8 great-grandchildren; Aiden, Gloria, Arthur, James, Nathan, Khloe, Liam, and Ewan who survive, two brothers; Daniel Clingaman of Friday Harbor, Washington, and Douglas Kent Clingaman of Defiance, two sisters; Charlotte Jayne Madison, deceased in 2005, and Susan Marie Garverick of Cupertino, California.
Alan joined the Army in 1961 and spent 1 1/2 years in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1963. He was hired at the Defiance Stamping Company that year, worked as a  tool and die maker until he retired in 2000. Al went to the Mardi Gras with the Bud Widmer Rube Band fresh out of graduating from Defiance High School in 1956. Al could be seen riding his Triumph motorcycle in the dead of winter going to work, not because he had to, but because he wanted to. Al loved his wife, kids, grandchildren, and his dog. He spent most of his winter evenings in his  shop behind his house building all kinds of wood and metal items, from model airplanes to pens. He loved to watch the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Team. He bowled for many years at the Holiday Lanes on the Monday night B league. He was an Academy of Model Aeronautics member, and flew with the Defiance Propfloppers. He was also an Experimental Aircraft Association member, going to Oshkosh, Wisconsin many times. He was a member of the Musician's Union, playing piano and organ most weekends for many bands for many years. He was a member of the Air Force Band from 1967 to 1979. He enjoyed gardening in his back yard in the summertime, and traveling in his camper in the spring and fall, visiting 49 states. He enjoyed the beauty of Alaska so much he went back a second time. If there were more people like Al, this country would be a better place. May he rest in peace.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, Ohio. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 pm on Monday at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor Janet Strickland officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Defiance Co. Humane Society, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
